Although the typewritten lecture text is about the history of life in the Diaspora, it also looks at the pre-history and early days of Israel. Further units address Judaism during the Hellenistic period and in the Roman Empire, the first early Christian polemics, developments in the Middle Ages, especially during the Crusades, as well as of modern age currents, such as Sabbateanism (a messianic movement around Sabbatai Tsevi in the seventeenth century). Schubert’s discourse ranges from the history of emancipation to growing anti-Semitism until the Shoah and ensuing contemporary events.
The issue of discrimination and social positioning is the main topic of the paper, which spans a large period of Jewish history. The author’s handwritten comments are also of interest. The following Reich Law Gazettes (Reichsgesetzblätter) were provided at the lecture: Berlin, 7 April 1933 Nr: 34, Berlin, 16 September 1935 Nr. 100; Berlin, 14 November 1938 Nr. 189; Berlin; 5. September 1941 100; Berlin, November 1941; Berlin, 26, April 1942.
