Kurt Schubert’s lecture Christianity and Judaism in Vienna and Austria before the 1848 Revolution until the Occupation on 11 March 1938 outlines the course of Jewish history. From the beginning of the 19th century the Jewish community grew from a small and tolerated entity into a pluralistic and prospering part of society. Professor Schubert pays special attention to anti-Semitic trends by showing texts published during those decades, thus giving the listeners a better grasp of Austrian history between 1848 and 1938. The lecture ends with the rise to power of the National Socialists in Austria and its consequences. Handwritten comments on the bibliography of the text, as well as keywords can be found attached.
