It was held once in the summer semester of 1952 and once in the winter semester of 1959-1960. Additionally, a summary of the older version can be found at the end of this E-book. Professor Kurt Schubert looks at Arab-Jewish philosophy and introduces several key figures, such as Saadia Gaon or Jehuda haLevi. He gives a detailed account of the life and teaching of the philosophers.

He then introduces the main representatives of medieval religious philosophy, such as Jedua haLevi, Abrahm ibn Daud or Maimondes. The gap in the numbering refers to Maimonides’s teaching and biography and comes from Die Religion des nachbiblischen Judentums (The Religion of Post-Biblical Judaism), Kurt Schubert, Vienna, Herder, 1955.

The author discusses the history of medieval Judaism and addresses several topics such as art and philosophy. He also gives a historical outline and discusses the life of Jews in relation to Muslim and Christian populations. Two additional texts were also used but have not been uploaded here. Two special editions of the Kairos journals 1, 1969, K.H., Rengstorf Kirche und Synagoge, Journal 2, 1969, Kurt Schubert: Das Judentum in der Welt des mittelalterlichen Islam (Judaism in the World of Medieval Islam).

This lecture was given by Professor Kurt Schubert in the summer semester of 1971. The author discusses the history of Judaism in the modern era, beginning with the Enlightenment. The author treats subjects such as court Jews, Messianism, with reference to Jakob Frank or Sabbatai Zvi, and Hasidism. He also concentrates on the anti-Semitism of the age. Political developments such as the Patent of Tolerance are also addressed. The detailed outline also refers to developments in the modern age, in particular to the NS period and the Shoah. Hartwig (Napthali) Wessely’s text Divrei Shalim we-Emet was also used for the lecture, but has not been uploaded here.

The subject matter is the course of Jewish history in the Middle Ages, developments during modern history, with reference to court Jews and anti-Semitism, then turning towards contemporary events with an analysis of the Shoah and Zionism. Unfortunately the original title has been lost. Reich Law Gazettes from 1933, 1938 and 1941 were supplied, as well as an anti-Semitic article from the Schwarze Korps, 24 November 1938.

The last part of the lecture addresses Zionism, the National Socialist period and the Shoah.
